Aircraft

Sierra Tango Aviation currently uses a 1942 Aeronca L-3 for the majority of our flight training. We feel this is an excellent aircraft for beginning pilots, advanced pilots looking to improve their skills, and for tailwheel conversions.

    • Simple systems allow more focus on improving basic flying skills
    • Excellent feedback feel during maneuvers
    • Tandem seating allows great visibility out of both sides of the aircraft
    • Encourages proper takeoff and landing technique unlike tricycle geared aircraft
    • Promotes proper rudder use in the air for coordinated flight
    • Taildraggers are just more fun!

The L-3, along with other "L-birds", were used for artillery fire direction, courier service, front-line liaison and pilot training. Our L-3C started its civillian life in California after being declared surplus by the Surplus Property Act of 1944.
